Seaplane Pilots Association 2019 Member Adventure
New Orleans, Louisiana
September 30 - October 5
Our host, Southern Seaplane, operates the largest seaplane base on the gulf coast area in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, just southeast of New Orleans. This year’s get-together will feature a packed agenda: flying in a variety of seaplane types; seaplane safety training and optional water egress training; and lots of sightseeing and social activities.
Seaplanes that should be on hand for members to fly include a Cessna 172, four 185s and two 206s; a Piper Super Cub; a de Havilland Beaver; a SeaRey; and possibly a Grumman Widgeon. Some of the aircraft will be on amphibious floats, and some on straight floats. Members can fly as pilot-in-command with a Southern Seaplane pilot in the right seat. Member Adventure participants will receive a significant discount off Southern Seaplane’s retail pricing.
There’s lots to see and do in a seaplane flying out of 65LA—lunch flights to LuLu’s in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and The Blind Tiger on Biloxi Beach, Mississippi; a visit to the McIlhenny Company’s Tabasco plant on Avery Island; and exploring the waters in Louisiana’s bayou and marsh regions.
Members can fly their own aircraft to Southern Seaplane (www.southernseaplane.com), which has a 5,000-foot-long by 100-foot-wide canal and an adjacent 3200-foot-long by 40-foot-wide hard- NAME surface runway on site (65LA).
