Carlos Gottfried was born in Mexico City on August 11, 1950. He graduated from Southern Methodist University (SMU) in 1974 with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering.
A private pilot since 1973, obtained his SES in 2007, and has put over 1,000 hours in his Lake Renegade.
President of the company POTENCIA INDUSTRIAL, which manufactures high technology electric motors and generators in Mexico for markets worldwide. He is also President of Fuerza Eolica, S.A. de C.V., the first wind energy development company in Mexico and has been largely involved in the shaping of policy and regulation associate with renewable energy integration into Mexico's energy portfolio, and additionally actively involved in Renewable Energy Technology in small wind and hydro turbines.
As a founding member and later President of MONARCO, a NGO created to protect the overwintering alpine sites of the Monarch butterfly; promoted the Presidential Decree declaring the Biosphere Reserve of over 150,000 acres.
Considered an authority in electric motor and generator design, he is frequently invited by many renowned institutions to give conferences on uninterruptable power, wind generator technology, electric cars, energy efficiency, and energy policy.
