Born and raised in Fort Wayne In., Randy's residence is split between Fort Wayne and Jake James in Angola Indiana. He owns and operates a commercial industrial design build construction firm that he started as a remodeling business while a teenager, now the business has enjoyed 36 years of growth and maturity. He also has interest in commercial real-estate sale and development projects.
Randy has been a lake and water enthusiast all his life. He's always been interested in aviation and was fortunate to learn to fly in 1995 when he received his private license. He immediately proceeded to his inst. rating in a 1981 Saratoga which he purchased upon the completion of his private ticket, which he still has and enjoys cross country flying in it. With a waterborne interest combined with the aviation twist, he went on to acquire his seaplane rating and purchased a 1998 maule M-7235 on Baughman strait floats. He has acquired over 3,600 hours of flight time. In 2006 he put in his private strip on Lake James.
In 1999, the state of Indiana requested that seaplanes stop flying from his lakes in Indiana, until they conformed with an administrative code requiring landing areas be established, which to preserve his flying interest in seaplanes his active involvement with the SPA began. To date he has been successful in establishing 17 private use seaplane bases, and has formed the Indiana Seaplane Pilots Association. As well as being a strong seaplane advocate for Indiana, Randy also volunteers at Sun and Fun as well as Oshkosh for the seaplane community.
